Rapido 914001 Highland Railway Jones Goods Steam Locomotive No 103 in Highland Railway Yellow Livery (1960s Condition) - OO Gauge
Want to own a piece of railway history in miniature? Then you need one of Rapido's forthcoming models of the Highland Railway’s ‘Big Goods’ 4-6-0, Britain’s first class of 4-6-0. Despite the nickname ‘Jones Goods’ that was commonly applied to the class, it was Chief Engineer David Jones’ Chief Draughtsman, David Anderson Hendrie, who suggested that the 4-6-0 arrangement, common in other countries, could work for the HR. Sharp Stewart built 15 ‘Big Goods’ in 1894 and, eventually, they could be found throughout the Highland’s system. The LMS started to withdraw them in 1929 and the last was condemned in 1940. Happily, the LMS preserved pioneer No. 103. It found fame when BR returned it to action in 1958. Withdrawn again in 1965, it’s now displayed in Glasgow’s Riverside Museum.
